The best horror stories in chat format. Short scary tales to read online.
Horror stories have fascinated humanity for centuries, and the chat format has transformed them into something entirely different: short scary stories that read like you're looking over someone's shoulder at their phone in real time. At Horror Chat Stories you'll find a wide collection of short horror stories and scary tales designed to read anywhere — on the bus, at lunch, or in bed, though that last one is entirely at your own risk.
Horror in chat format works because it removes the distance between reader and story. There's no omniscient narrator, no lengthy descriptions — just messages, missed calls, notifications, and silences that last a little too long. Each conversation has its own rhythm, and tension builds message by message, exactly the way information reaches you when something is genuinely going wrong.
Our horror story collection includes psychological thrillers, supernatural tales, everyday horror, and scary stories with unexpected endings. There are short reads that take five minutes and longer ones that keep you hooked for half an hour. Whether you're looking for short horror stories in English or Spanish, this section brings together the best of the genre in chat format.
The chat format also has another advantage for horror: ambiguity. An unanswered message can mean many things, and your imagination does the work that a narrator would do in traditional fiction. Many readers tell us that horror stories in chat format scare them more than full novels, precisely because they feel more immediate and easier to imagine happening to them personally.
Browse the horror stories in this section and pick whatever catches your eye. If you want to start strong, the most-viewed stories are a solid first choice. And if one of them keeps you up at night, don't say we didn't warn you.
