Ashley: hey still in my Uber. is this taking forever or what?

Jake: depends where you're coming from

Ashley: left Silver Lake like twenty minutes ago. we should basically be there by now

Jake: didn't he take the 101?

Ashley: yeah but he missed the exit. says there's construction but i don't see anything

Jake: ask him

Ashley: i did. says he knows a shortcut. but something feels really off about this route

Jake: what does your phone's GPS say

Ashley: no signal since i got in. the whole ride

Jake: take a pic of the license plate. get the one on the dash too if you can

Ashley: ok give me a sec

Jake: what do you mean it's not him

Ashley: the app shows a dark-haired guy with a beard. this one's blond. completely different person

Jake: get out at the next light

Ashley: there's one right now. going

Ashley: i'm out. i'm on the street. i'm okay

Jake: thank god. send me the plate number, i'm gonna look up the car

Ashley: KMN-4732

Jake: that car was pulled from service in June 2023. accident on I-5. the driver died at the scene
