Giovanni, a maintenance worker at the Vatican, begins secretly documenting the horrors he discovers in the forbidden underground levels beneath the Holy City
MONTH 1 - THE NEW JOB
Giovanni: September 3, 2024
Giovanni: I'm starting this journal because I need to document what I see down here.
Giovanni: They assigned me to the Vatican Underground Infrastructure Maintenance Department.
Giovanni: My supervisor is Father Marchetti. A dry man, of few words.
Giovanni: He gave me an access card and a map. He told me to memorize the red zones.
Giovanni: "Those zones don't exist to you. Understood?"
Giovanni: I nodded. But I understood the opposite.
...
Giovanni: September 5
Giovanni: First real day. Went down to level -1.
Giovanni: Public maps say that beneath the Vatican there are catacombs and little else.
Giovanni: Lies.
Giovanni: Just on the first sublevel, there are kilometers of tunnels.
Giovanni: Some with modern lighting. Others with torches.
Giovanni: Torches. In 2024.
Giovanni: I counted 14 sealed doors that don't appear on any map.
...
Giovanni: September 8
Giovanni: I approached a sealed door. Solid iron. Very old.
Giovanni: It has symbols carved into it. Not crosses. Not Christian.
Giovanni: I tried to take a photo. It came out blurry all three times.
